Mike joined Hiscox in 2003, working first as a management information analyst in the retail team before moving into catastrophe modelling as a senior analyst in the London Market business. Mike joined the reinsurance team in 2005, writing the global reinsurance account before moving on to run Syndicate 33’s North America and Caribbean account in 2012. In 2013, Mike was appointed Director of Non Marine Underwriting for Hiscox Re and, in the same year, became a Hiscox Partner. Mike was appointed Hiscox Re Chief Underwriting Officer, joint active underwriter of Syndicate 33 and active underwriter for Syndicate 6104 in 2014. In 2017 he relocated from London to Bermuda to become CEO of Hiscox Re & ILS.
As Director of Underwriting, Megan oversees the Hiscox Re underwriting team in London and plays a leadership role in the team’s ambitions to innovatively match reinsurance risk with capital. Megan joined Hiscox in March 2017 from Paraline, where she was Active Underwriter of Paraline (formerly ICAT) Syndicate 4242 and Special Purpose Arrangement 6123. Over her career, she has built up commercial and personal lines insurance business and managed portfolios from a pricing, underwriting, operations, marketing and distribution perspective. Since 2010, Megan worked on strategic business planning for the Lloyd’s Syndicate including their reinsurance purchasing strategy. Megan has a BA in Mathematics and Philosophy and a Masters in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado.
Adam joined Hiscox Re & ILS in October 2017, as Director of Underwriting in Bermuda. Adam's reinsurance career began in 2004 when he joined Montpelier Re in an underwriting and risk analytics role. During his time at Montpelier Re, working across both their Bermuda and London operations, he was a founding executive of their Lloyd’s platform where he built out operations and developed an international property risk book. After returning to Bermuda, Adam took on dual roles underwriting the US property cat book, and focusing on enterprise risk management. In 2012, he moved internally to start up Montpelier’s asset management platform Blue Capital Management Limited, taking on the roles of portfolio and investor management. In 2015, he became CEO and Director of the platform, which has funds listed on both the New York and London stock exchanges.
Liz started her career at KPMG in London where she qualified as a chartered accountant, whilst specialising in the audit of London market insurance companies. In 2006, she moved to KPMG Bermuda and continued to work with reinsurance entities both from an auditing and advisory perspective. Liz joined Hiscox in 2012 as the Group’s technical accountant, which included advising on the set up of the Hiscox Group’s insurance-linked strategies business. In 2014, she became Head of Finance for the Hiscox UK retail business, which writes over £500m annually. She returned to Bermuda and became CFO of Hiscox Re & ILS in June 2018. Liz graduated from Leeds University in 2001 with a BSc in Statistics.
Andrew Hughes joined the team in September 2015 as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer. In July 2019, Andrew was promoted to the role of Managing Principal for Hiscox ILS and became a member of the Hiscox Re & ILS Executive team. Andrew is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the ILS business, ensuring we are meeting investor demand for high-quality, innovative products. Prior to Hiscox, Andrew worked at Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC), specialising in alternative asset class structuring and investments, and King & Wood Mallesons where he advised on structured finance and securitisation transactions. Andrew was admitted to the roll of solicitors in England & Wales in September 2005 and the roll of solicitors in Queensland, Australia in February 2014. He graduated from the Exeter University, UK in 2000 with a BA in Law and Information Technology and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Law, also from Exeter University.
Andrew joined Hiscox in 2000 in a technical role for the Hiscox Group reinsurance purchase team before taking on wider responsibilities as Reinsurance Information Manager in 2005. His analytical and commercial skills led him to successfully transition into a reinsurance underwriting role in 2010. With 17 years of experience working across the business, he has helped grow our business capability on different fronts, from analytics and underwriting to our underwriting platform development and ensuring pricing rigour across multiple lines.
Rob Caton is the Group Head of Underwriting Risk and Reinsurance and sits on the Hiscox Re & ILS Executive Team. He also sits on the Group's Catastrophe Management, Reinsurance Purchase, and Capital Modelling Committees. Since joining Hiscox in 1999, he has led a number of analytics and modelling teams within the Group. An active member of the Catastrophe Risk Management community, Rob previously sat on the LMA Exposure Management Group and the Lloyd’s RDS Steering Group. Prior to joining Hiscox, he was an Underwriter with UK Insurance Ltd., writing lines including creditor, travel and warranty. Rob is a graduate of Salford University, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Studies, and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Louise joined the Hiscox team in April 2001. Over the next 15 years, she developed her career through consistent delivery, determination, and a willingness to learn and take risks. In her seven years heading up reward for Hiscox, Louise was a major influence in adapting our compensation practices to reflect the changes in our business, as well as meeting the needs of increasingly challenging shareholder and legal requirements. Alongside this role, Louise has been responsible for HR for a number of business areas (London Market, Operations, IT) and now as Head of HR for Hiscox Re & ILS.
